Hosted by Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy, the Duke Global Policy (DGP) Program in Geneva offers an intensive week of academic seminars, institutional visits, and cross-cultural exchange. The program bridges theory and practice, enabling students to step beyond the classroom and experience firsthand the complexity, collaboration, and diversity inherent in tackling global health challenges. Student Fieldwork | Julia Ching: When Health Financing Meets Humanity

In the summer of 2024, with the kind recommendation of Julia‘s mentor Dr. Button Zhao and the generous support of the International Organization Internship Scholarship funded by AEGON-INDUSTRIAL Fund Management Company and Shanghai Wealspring Asset Management Company leadership, and Mr. Chengfei Dong, Julia embarked on a journey to Geneva, Switzerland. Driven by a deep passion for global health, Julia began her field research and internship at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Kayla Jackson: A Journey of Discovery in exploring Maternal Health in Cambodia

In February 2024, Kayla Jackson, a student in the Master of Science in Global Health program at Duke Kunshan University’s Class of 2024, embarked on a field research trip to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. There, she collaborated with the University of Health Sciences in Cambodia to conduct her thesis research. Her study focuses on maternal and child health, delving into the complex psychological processes behind pregnant women’s decisions between natural childbirth and cesarean sections, and uncovering the deeper motivations behind these choices.

Geneva, the Arena of Global Health

Runpeng spent the summer of 2023 in Geneva at the Global Fund, combining his field research with an internship to investigate the issue of fund allocation in global health projects.”Conducting overseas fieldwork was the most significant reason that attracted me to apply for the Duke Kunshan MSc Global Health program,” he said.

A Memorable Summer in Hanoi

Hui-Hsin (Ema) Hsiao (MS’24) is currently organizing and writing her thesis, with research data collected during fieldwork in Hanoi, Vietnam, last summer. “The summer of 2023 is a memorable chapter in my life,” she said.
