Leading Global Health Experts from U.S. Think Tank CSIS Visit Duke Kunshan University

KUNSHAN, China — Four global health experts from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) visited Duke Kunshan University on Aug. 21, engaging in discussions with students and faculty on topics spanning health security, science diplomacy and U.S.-China relations.

The delegation included J. Stephen Morrison, senior vice president at CSIS, Paul Friedrichs, senior adviser at CSIS, Yanzhong Huang, senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations, and Michaela Simoneau, associate fellow with the CSIS Global Health Policy Center.

Scott MacEachern, vice chancellor for academic affairs, provided an overview of the university’s liberal arts curriculum. Faculty members, including Global Health Research Center Co-Director Fujie Xu, presented on the research center’s research and degree programs.

“Global health can serve as a stabilizing force in U.S.-China relations,” said Xu. “Through international education and research, Duke Kunshan University is preparing a new generation of health leaders with the vision and skills to foster cooperation in public health.”

The visit also included a panel titled “Bridging Health Diplomacy, Scienceand Geopolitics,which drew strong interest from the university community.
