Summer School Delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University Visited GHRC

On July 9, 2025, the 2025 Shanghai Summer School on Global Health and One Health visited Duke Kunshan University (DKU) for a day of academic exchange. The delegation, comprising 30 participants from 13 countries, engaged with DKU faculty to discuss The visit, as part of the summer program’s immersive curriculum, highlighted the importance of international cooperation in tackling pressing health challenges.

Professor Fujie Xu delivered the welcome address

Professor Fujie Xu, Co-Director of the Global Health Program at DKU, delivered the welcome address, positioning DKU as a “committed partner on the path toward global health equity.” Reflecting on more than a decade of program development, Professor Xu emphasized the shared mission between DKU and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University to promote health equity and foster intercultural learning through education and research.

Professor Xiaonong Zhou, Vice-Dean of the School of Global Health at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, introduced the purpose of this summer school program and the students’ background. He encouraged the summer camp fellows to engage with DKU faculty and students during this visit.

Professor Kun Yin introduced the SJTUSM’s research achievements and global strategy

Professor Kun Yin of School of Global Health at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, provided a comprehensive overview of the university’s research achievements and global strategy. He highlighted the School of Medicine’s growing international network, which expands global practice platforms and supports the cultivation of future global health leaders with diverse, multicultural perspectives.

Ms. Kaikai Yang introduced DKU

Ms. Kaikai Yang, Associate Director of the Global Health Program at Duke Kunshan University, introduced DKU’s interdisciplinary education model, which empowers students to break down disciplinary silos and approach complex health issues through integrated, cross-sectoral thinking.

Professor Qian Long introduced Global Health Program

During the visit, Professor Qian Long, Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) of MSc Global Health Program, introduced the program’s core educational framework. Centered on the vision of promoting health equity, she outlined the program’s research focus, teaching approach, and international collaborations aimed at cultivating students’ perspective and building roadmap for tackling global health challenges.

Ms. Zhangyang Pan presented VaxLab

Ms. Zhangyang Pan, Associate Director for Communication and Policy Advocacy, presented the center’s signature research program – the Innovation Lab for Vaccine Delivery Research (VaxLab). She emphasized immunization as one of the most cost-effective public health interventions and introduced emerging innovations that address key barriers in vaccines’ availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability.

This visit fostered an in-depth exchange of the two universities’ core strengths and development strategies in global health, providing the summer camp fellow with a platform for interdisciplinary discussion and cross-cultural learning, deepening their understanding of health equity.
