Duke Kunshan University’s Global Health Research Center (GHRC) brings together a team of dedicated research fellows with strong academic background and innovative competency. By engaging in research projects across diverse global health fields, they hone their research skills and gain hands-on experience in project management and implementation, paving the ways for their future careers. Let’s take a look at their stories!

Lei Guo is leading a collaborative project with the Kunshan Center for Disease Control and Prevention to evaluate the cost structure of vaccination services in Kunshan and provide recommendations for optimization. After earning his master’s degree in Global Health from DKU in 2018, Lei Guo served as an associate in research at the Duke Global Health Institute from 2019 to 2022 before joining the VaxLab project in GHRC.
“DKU has deepened my expertise in global health, fostered teamwork, and strengthened public health partnerships. The collaborative environment and my training at DKU have been pivotal in shaping my career and advancing population health.”

Jianhong Xu made significant contributions to gerontology in 2024. His research on the plasma proteomic signature of frailty risk and prognosis in the UK Biobank was published in GeroScience in November. This study, co-authored with several prominent researchers, offers a novel insight into the plasma protein biomarkers associated with frailty, providing a basis for future clinical interventions.
“My experience at DKU has equipped me with analytical methodologies in medical statistics and epidemiology, while deepening my understanding of healthy aging research. This journey has not only strengthened my research foundation but also charted a clear course for my future academic exploration in this field.”

Yufei Jia joined GHRC in 2021 as a Research Fellow in Health Policy and Systems under the mentorship of Associate Professor Qian Long. At GHRC, she contributed substantially to several key projects, including co-authoring the 2024 paper “Navigating the Implementation Gap for Trastuzumab’s Journey from Health Insurance to Patient Access” in Global Health Research and Policy and the WHO report of National Basic Public Health Services Programme in China: case study. In the summer of 2024, Yufei joined the University of Rochester as a doctoral degree candidate in health policy.
“I cherish my time at DKU, it has been a source of immense gratitude. It helped me get a solid grasp of the healthcare system and gave me hands-on experience, which in turn clarified my PhD application and career direction.”
We cordially invite outstanding scholars to join the Global Health Research Center, where we collaboratively address interdisciplinary global health challenges and advance our shared vision of health for all.
