The Global Health Research Center (GHRC) successfully convened the first “This is Global Health” symposium in Spring Semester 2025. Focusing on “Global Mental Health: Where We Are and Where We Are Going”, the event brought together global health experts, DKU faculty, students, and healthcare professionals from Kunshan to address critical mental health challenges.
Leaders from Duke Global Health Institute, Duke Kunshan University’s Global Health Programme, and Duke-NUS Medical School convened to advance joint initiatives in education, research, and partnership.
Professor Fujie Xu, Co-Director of the Global Health Program at Duke Kunshan University, participated in the 16th Annual Conference of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH), themed “Innovating and Implementing in Global Health for a Sustainable World”, which was held from February 20 to 23, 2025, in Atlanta, USA, and contributed to discussions on advancing sustainable solutions in global health.
Ahead of World Tuberculosis Day (March 24), leading infectious disease expert Professor Wenhong Zhang delivered a keynote at Duke Kunshan University (DKU) on March 20, highlighting the humanity’s battle against tuberculosis (TB), AI in healthcare, and personal career development. Professor Wenhong Zhang currently holds the roles of Director at the National Medical Center for Infectious Diseases and the Director of Infectious Diseases Department at Shanghai Huashan Hospital.

VaxLab has teamed up with Duke-NUS to tackle immunization challenges in Asia, discussing with regional stakeholders the need for sustainable systems and stronger collaborations to improve vaccine coverage and address disparities in national immunization programs.
Between 1990 and 2021, China saw significant gains in life expectancy, yet aging challenges persist. A study by Prof. Marius Wamsiedel, published in BMC Geriatrics, explores how urban Chinese elders perceive and engage in social activities, highlighting key opportunities and barriers to fostering active aging in an evolving society.
