Dr. Qian Long, Associate Professor of Global Health at Duke Kunshan University (DKU), has been appointed as the Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) for the Master of Science in Global Health Program (MSc-GH Program), starting on July 1, 2024. In this role, she will oversee the daily operations of the MSc-GH Program to support its faculty, students, and staff on education and research activities.
Dr. Long received her Master of Public Health degree from the Royal Tropical Institute in the Netherlands and a Doctor of Medical Science degree at the University of Helsinki in Finland. She completed her postdoctoral training at Duke University and Duke Kunshan University. Dr. Long has extensive research and practical experience in the field of global health, concentrating on strengthening health systems to promote health equity. Her key research areas include health system governance, health financing, and the organization and delivery of health services, with a focus on vulnerable populations in China, as well as other Asian and African countries.
Over the past 15 years, Dr. Long has led and participated in more than 30 collaborative projects, both domestically and internationally, covering areas such as maternal and child health, tuberculosis control, and non-communicable disease management. She has contributed to and authored numerous policy reports and briefs with significant national and international impact and has published over 70 peer-reviewed academic papers in international journals, primarily in top-tier publications, including The Lancet Public Health, The Lancet Regional Health – Western Pacific, Bulletin of the World Health Organization, and PLoS Medicine. Prior to joining Duke Kunshan University, she worked for over two years in the Department of Reproductive Health and Research at the World Health Organization based in Geneva.
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Chenkai Wu, Assistant Professor of Global Health at DKU, for his tremendous contributions over the past four academic years as the DGS of the MSc-GH program. His efforts have included expanding program enrollment, establishing course collaborations with the Fuqua School of Business to offer students a broader range of credit options, and fostering partnerships with the Duke Geneva Global Policy Program, which has provided students with valuable opportunities for field visits and internships with international organizations.
