Work Begins on Three APO/WHO-Funded Projects

Work has begun on three projects funded by the World Health Organization (WHO). The GHRC was selected as one of the three research hubs by the WHO Asia Pacific Observatory (APO) on Health Systems and Policies in 2014 Led by Prof Shenglan Tang, the research hub focuses on comparative country studies on health systems development in the Asia Pacific region.

The first project, led by Prof Abu Abdullah, examines ways to engage community health workers in combatingnon-com municable chronic diseases in Asia. Prof liing Yan is leading a second proiect assessing an evidencebased, simplifed cardiovascular management program for primary healthcare (PHC) workers in low-resourcesettings. The third proiect, co-led by Prof. Xiaoyun Liu from Peking University and Tang synthesizes theexperiences in attracting and retaining rural PHC workers in Asia-Pacifc countries, and wil develop policrecommendations for strengthening healthcare human resources in rural areas.

“These research projects will contribute to the development of evidence-based health policies and strengthen national and regional capacities in health systems and policy research”, said Prof Shenglan Tang.

The three research projects were launched in April 2016 and will last for 18-30 months. The projects are taking place in India, Vietnam, Laos, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and China.
